The game of carrom was in vougue in Bengal from the 17th Century but there is no written evidence about it, through it was widely spread then, almost in every house. Initially carrom was being played by using powder or fine French Chalk. Thereafter, a person, named Sri Gopal Dutta (Sree Bhola Babu), residing somewhere near Amherst Street, Kolkata, introduced the pockets of somewhat triangular shapes. Later another person named Rakha Babu changed the size of the carrom board which was initially of 34” to 36” for maneuvering 19 carrom men and striker smoothly on the board. Other basic rules and playing codes were improvised by the legends like Netai Mullik, Shashadhar Ghosh and Ananta Pal from time to time to its present form .
